When Maurice Gusman donated the theater to the City of Miami in 1975 he made one important stipulation: that it be managed by the Department of Off-Street Parking, a semi-autonomous agency of the City. This unique arrangement was a result of Mr. Gusman’s long-term friendship with the Off-Street Parking board chairman, Col. Mitchell Wolfson.

The Department of Off-Street Parking, now better known as the Miami Parking Authority, continues to manage the theater to this day. Under the guidance of the MPA board and executive staff, the theater has flourished and qualified for millions of dollars in public grants that enabled the restoration projects of recent years.
